* Melania & Melozzo *

Melania (US counterpart: Applejack) is the first pony to introduce the typical Italian pattern of pony-name giving: an actual person name (while rarely US ponies have human names) hiding a word play that refers to the pony symbol. Mela is, in fact the word for an apple. Melania is orange-bodied and yellow maned.

A latter issue of a very similar pony (same colours, same symbol) but in the 82 mold is often mistaken for a variation of Melania. Anyways, unlikely the UK version of Applejack (which is merely the same pony in different pose) the 82 Italian pony is actually a different character: his name is Melozzo, and he is someway the male counterpart of Melania. He has NO freckles. (Compare with Timmy & Tammy)
